A friend of mine had problem with Dhiraagu mms setting with his factory unlocked iPhone4s, he was in his island so couldnt come to Male’ and show to service provider, so had to solve himself.
I hadn’t set mms setting myself as most share pics using twitter and fb these days and not getting mms didnt bother. He requested me so sought to do something about it.
Upon a google search, it led to jaxian’s post for mms setting (http://www.jaxian.net/?p=509) and did fillup network setting as given but yet it didnt work in sending MMS, but was able to receive.

How it resolved.
0. Fillup network setting as given on jaxian.net
1. Reset network setting (setting>general>reset>network reset).
2. After reboot, go to settings and fill BOTH the missing APN (internet.dhimobile)
3. Reboot (switch off and restart the device)
4. Open Photos app, open a pic and left click the bottom left arrow and send as ‘message’, select recipient num. (didnt try with opening Messages app and inserting pic)
5. Open Messages app, pic should had been sent if on 3g network.
6. If 3g is not available, then wait for it to be sent with edge as it would take a bit more time.

Hope this help to others in the same jam.

Update: some pics are too big to send via mms so install “Photo2MMS” free app from app store to resize camera gallery pics and send🙂

Yesterday heard the news of Somalian pirates expanding their operations and hijacking an iranian ship in the eez area of Maldives.

The Somalians castaways living in Kaafu Dhoonidhoo are mostly muslims, some Hafiz,They are fed and given small work to do in Dhoonidhoo. They do not want repatriation as life here is better than their own soil. Out of the ordinary is they do need a bar of soup everyday.

Sea piracy is a big international threat, the local boats do need to just shy away instead of being curious.

Wishing all bloggers a happy new year ahead.

Mostly on fb so not much blogging.

Thanks for viewing & take care.

Happy new year 2012

This info is useful for Students and historians alike.

All text are in Dhivehi and it a scanned copy.

One of the recent news is about extremists trying to kill a freelancer journalist. Was curious about that issue so looked into relevant websites.
The information found from the website of the journalist, the victim turn out to be more of an anti islamic propaganda portal, Most posts are to verbally abuse and make sick jokes of Maldivian religious lecturers.

Unbelievably is that he is a writer for Haveerudaily.  Dnt know why such a respectable newspaper is employing him. Well, That’s another matter.
Since he’s been operating for so long, under various website and blogs name, my conclusion is that this is a tactic employed by himself and may be his partners to get attention. Some sites I found on mvblogs expressing same view:

http://lordhexter.blogspot.com/2010/03/death-threats-and-freedom-of-expression.html

http://mohamedsiruhan.blogspot.com/2010/03/hilath-and-do-sappe-very-important-for.html

Maldivian public needs to be aware of this. Should make a stop to their propaganda, some way but not by violence.

I had spent a lot of  Months searching for a way to install dhivehi fonts to my iphone but found none, thus with help of gaurav’s blog I found a way to install.  The hard part is converting the bin file to xml and modifying the relevant codes. I used Notepad++ to modify the font plist. Its been about 3 weeks and so far no problem. I can browse websites using iphone default browser or commercial browser apps, with no probs.

Here is a manual way to install using WinSCP to SSH over wifi

  • From cydia, install OpenSSH.
  • Run the WinSCP from desktop and insert the IP address, use user:root and password:alpine, to SSH into iphone system. (google for more info)
  • Download http://www.fileducky.com/PqaoxuPR/, Extract the zipfile to any folder.
  • Navigate to “root/system/libarary/fonts/Cache” and copy the font files into that cache folder.
  • Copy(replace) the “CGFontCache.plist” into the “root/system/libarary/fonts/”
  • REBOOT the iphone.
  • Run Safari browser and njoy

thats all!

You can read Haveeru and Miadhu news in dhivehi with no problem. There are some vowel(fili’) displacement in jazeera & haamadaily, will look into it when I get time.

(I tested with 3.0 firmware ONLY. It may work with other firmware aswell.)

Hope this helps the Maldivian community & paves a way to an easily install Dhivehi fonts to iphone(such as thru fontswap app).

If you have an internet connection at home/office but got no wifi, then buy a WIFIMAX dongle (around Rf450), makes a lot life easier.

Btw, Ramazan Mubaarik.

Dhiraagu sucks big time! It’s frustrating that Dhiraagu is controlling the type of content we are downloading for users of Vilimale’.  If it’s a compressed file with extension such as zip, rar etc.. or a program file such as exe. they are restricting the bandwith to 10kbps. If it’s any other type of file, can download around 65kbps.

Initially I thought it was a problem with my phone line but after talking with a dhiraagu technician,  he told me that it’s having their acceptable normal speed(Downloading from their servers shows 25kbps) . I asked him about the restriction, which he couldn’t answer.

It’s been more than a year since I’ve been their ‘unlimited package of 512mps’ customer, paying Rf690 per Month. They are restriction content, which is like a corporate company putting restriction of sites to their employee! Most Vilimale’ customers of Dhiraagu is saying it’s the worst ISP in the region. My brother who lives on the other side of Vilimale’ is facing the same issue and said he’s now opting to download from his office. Typical Maldivian style.

Wish I could change to ROL, Athix(Aiman) is using ROL in Vilimale’. Vilimale’ is a division (avah) of Male’, but ROL won’t officially provide service to Vilimale’. There are only 2 ISP’s of Maldives and they are providing biased services to Vilimale’ with comparison to Male’. TAM (Telecom Authority of Maldives) needs to fulfill their mandate. They need to care about the people and take actions on these companies for providing such biased services.

Wish Maldivians get the chance to seek service from genuine ISP providers. Dhiraagu & ROL need to come “ai foaraa fashah” now.  I will be sending letters to TAM and Dhiraagu about this, do help to get this issue resolved.
